About Us
The Arlington Admirals are a middle school hockey team open to hockey players in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Formally known as the Arlington Middle School Hockey Club, the team was formed in 2007, when the Washington Capitals opened their new practice facility in Arlington. Dozens of Arlington middle schoolers have played for the Admirals before going on to play for public and private high school teams like Yorktown, Washington-Lee, Bishop O'Connell, Bishop Ireton, Gonzaga, St. John's, St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School.
The Admirals have enjoyed success on the ice, winning the Ashburn Middle School Tournament in 2018-19 and 2019-20. The 2019-20 team finished with a 13-2-1 overall record, playing an independent schedule. Before becoming an independent team, the Admirals won the Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League in 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19.
The Admirals in 2022-23 will play a highly competitive schedule against local rivals in the NVSHL middle school division. The Admirals are based at MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, where they practice and play home games. To avoid conflicts with travel and Tier I teams, the Admirals will hold up to 4 weekly practices in late September and October on Friday evenings. The Admirals will play their home games on Friday evenings from November through February and will seek to schedule away games that do not conflict with travel and Tier 1 schedules.
Try outs are typically held during the first week of May, prior to the upcoming season and are open to all middle school hockey players who live in or who attend a middle school in Arlington County.
