Admirals complete winning 2019-20 season

The Arlington Admirals completed a successful 2019-20 season with a 7-5 victory over McLean/Great Falls on Feb. 14 at Reston. The victory capped the Admirals first season playing an independent schedule, compiling a 9-2-1 regular-season record under Head Coach Max Gruber.

Highlights of the season included a split of the two-game series with the Landon School and a sweep of four games against McLean/Great Falls. In the most competitive game of the season, the Admirals fought back with a last-minute goal to earn a 4-4 tie against the Mater Dei School at Cabin John on Feb. 12, having lost 5-2 to the Griffins at home on Dec. 6. The Admirals swept two-game series against both Colgan and Lake Braddock.

The 2019-20 season was the 13th campaign for the Admirals, dating back to the opening of MedStar Capitals Iceplex in 2007.

 

Admirals win middle school tournament championship

The Arlington Admirals capped a successful 2019-20 season by winning the Ashburn Middle School Tournament for the second consecutive year, defeating Battlefield, 5-1, in the championship game on March 8 at Ashburn Ice House.

The Admirals began the tournament on March 7 with a 7-4 victory in round-robin play over Battlefield, the regular season champion of the Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League. That evening, in the fifth meeting of the season against McLean/Great Falls, a shootout goal from Zach Skowronek and save by Daniel Dille gave the Admirals an 8-7 victory. The Admirals on March 8 earned a spot in the championship game with a 4-1 victory over the West Virginia Vipers.
